Quincy Quarries

Fall 2024

Signage, website, and social media content in the form of a TikTok video.

I began working on this project for my community engagement design class at UMass Dartmouth and continued exploring the concept by designing more deliverables in my dynamic screen based type class. The primary objective of this project was to develop design research methodologies, strategies, processes, and forms that embrace a responsive and connected approach to design, informed by user observation and research. I identified a local site in my community—Quincy Quarries Reservation—as a place where design could address existing issues. This unique and historically rich public space has been cherished by generations, but it is often mistreated and lacks user-friendly features. It's not uncommon to find litter or even hazardous debris like sharp metal scraps emerging from the ground.

Given its history of safety concerns, I designed a series of signs highlighting the site's rules, potential hazards, and historical significance. To enhance community engagement, I created a photo archive website that corresponds with QR code signs placed throughout the reservation—each linking to community-contributed photos and memories tied to specific locations. Additionally, I produced a TikTok video to educate the public about the space and help drive more positive attention and foot traffic to the area.
